Accra Great Olympics yesterday suffered a setback in their fight against relegation when they lost 0-3 to visiting Medeama Sporting Club at the Accra Sports Stadium. The defeat kept Olympics at the 15th position on the league log with 23 points.

The few fans of the home-side who came to show their support left the stadium in disappointment before referee Awal Mohammed blew the final whistle.

Olympics began well with early incursions into their opponent’s area in search of an early goal, but attackers Kofi Bekoe, Douglas Opoku and David Agordome lacked the finesse and cutting edge in front of goal.

While in the hunt for an early goal, Medeama laid a siege at their opponent’s area and had a corner kick in the 19th minute. The resultant cross was headed back into the penalty box by winger Yaw Ibrahim which met the right foot of lurking attacker Justic Blay, whose feeble strike was mishandled by goalkeeper Michael Sai and found its way into the net.

Ten minutes later, the visitors increased the tally through Bismack Oppong. Winger Latif Salifu, who caused much trouble for the homesters, pounced on a loose ball from the right and floated it into the box. In an attempt to save the ball, goalkeeper Sai missed it and a tap from Adom Ampofo saw Medeama’s Bismark Oppong taking advantage to slot the ball home for the second goal.

Olympics responded immediately with a substitution as Emmanuel Amartey came in for Douglas Opoku but the attacker failed to make any impact.

Back from the break, Olympics charged on their opponents for the equaliser. However, Benjamin Arthur, Kwame Boateng and Kofi Bekoe wasted chances in front of goal.

The visitors sealed the fate of Olympics in the 76th minute through Salifu who ran deep into the vital area of the visitors before beating goalkeeper Sai to add his name onto the score sheet.
