The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has revealed that government has approved an amount of $8million for the hosting of the African Women Championship later this year.
Ghana will host the competition for the first time, after placing third in the last edition in Cameroon.
In his first meet the press encounter organized by the Ministry of Information on Tuesday, the Sports Minister stated the government is pumping in an amount of $8 million to make sure the country host a successful tournament.
“The Akufo-Addo led government has approved $8 million for the hosting of the Women’s AFCON, and this will include renovation at the Accra Sports Stadium, training pitches at El-Wak and the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast,” Mr Asiamah said when he met the press on Tuesday.
“There will be some training pitches being put in good shape for the tournament,” he added.
The Black Queens won the WAFU cup of nations in Cote D'Ivoire a month ago and are expected to win the Championship in Ghana.
