Some indigenes of Elmina in the Central Region have petitioned President Nana Akufo-Addo to stop the Bank of Ghana (BoG) from its “deliberate” acts aimed at destroying the businesses of the Chairman of Groupe Nduom, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.
The group presented a petition to the President through the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA), Nana Appiah Korang, after a march through the principal streets of Elmina – Dr Nduom’s hometown.
Some of the placards carried by the over 50 demonstrators who were clad in red and black attire, read: “Restore GN Savings Licence”,” Pay Nduom his money”, “Our God will speak for us”, ”GN is not insolvent”, “Leave Nduom alone”, “Nduom is our saviour”.
The group also invoked a river deity curse against anyone who wants to disgrace and collapse the businesses of the entrepreneur.
In the petition, the group said its members “have observed with utmost dismay the deliberate plan by the Bank of Ghana to destroy the reputation and businesses of our beloved and illustrious industrialist, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom”.
The group, therefore, called on the President to call his appointees, such as Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to order and to validate claims submitted by Groupe Nduom totalling over GHS2.2 billion, an amount it considers sufficient for the company to settle all of its indebtedness to its clients.
The group is hopeful that Nana Akufo-Addo will intervene to see the restoration of Dr Nduom’s deposit-taking license so he can continue to offer employment to thousands of unemployed Ghanaian youth.
The group has threatened to hit the streets of Accra with another demonstration to register their displeasure should the president fail to listen to their concerns.

We, the Concerned Citizens of Elmina have observed with utmost dismay the deliberate plan by the Bank of Ghana to destroy the reputation and businesses of our beloved and illustrious industrialist, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom. Our son, affectionately called Edwumawura by many Ghanaians is under attack from some agents of state to destroy his business empire for political and personal reasons. We wish to bring this serious matter to the attention of the President, through his able Municipal Chief Executive, to intervene as the father of the nation, in this matter of attacking a Ghanaian businessman.
