GES to recruit 2017-18 teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is to recruit teachers who completed colleges of education in 2017 and 2018 before the next academic year.
The service has, therefore, asked only graduates who completed within those years to apply for employment to work at places where their services would be most needed in the country.

However, the Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, who disclosed this to the Daily Graphic in Accra last Saturday, explained that applicants to be considered under the special window of opportunity were those who did not qualify for employment on completion of their respective courses during the last recruitment exercise because they either had issues with their results or were referred in some papers but were now qualified.

“This recruitment is strictly for applicants who completed college of education in 2017 or 2018 only,” he further emphasised.

The director-general directed interested applicants to access the GES official web portal,, to complete application forms and attach valid certificates on or before August 15, this year.

He gave an assurance that advertisement for the recruitment of other categories of teachers would be out in due course, and insisted that for a teacher to be considered for recruitment, he or she needed to pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

Interested applicants must have completed their programmes in either 2017 or 2018 without any referral paper and must have finished the mandatory one-year national service.

The person must have also passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

Such applicants have up to August 25, this year to apply.

On Monday, January 13, this year, some trained teachers in the 2017 and 2018 year batches converged on the GES Headquarters in Accra where they picketed and demanded to be posted.

The picketing led to the arrest of eight of the leaders of the group by the Ministries Police for unlawful gathering.
