Asiedu Nketia defends Mahama over “boot-for-boot” comment

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has jumped to the defence of former President John Mahama over his “boot-for-boot” comments.

Mr Mahama had threatened that there would be reprisal attacks if the government doesn’t stop the attack on members of the NDC.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Police and the Akufo-Addo government have failed to take action whenever NDC members are attacked.

According to Mr Nketiah, it makes common sense that members of the party would provide their own security.

“Those criticizing Mahama are doing so because they feel like criticizing. In fact, everything he said was right and I support him totally. Akufo Addo and his security people have failed to protect us so the best we can also do is to face them,” he stated on Accra based Okay FM monitored, by Adomonline.com.

Mr Mahama, after the attacks on members of the NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, said the NDC was ready to match the NPP “boot-for-boot”.

Mr Mahama’s comments have since attracted criticisms and calls for an apology, comments he has described as “hypocritical”.

Likewise, Asiedu Nketia noted that the emergence of vigilante groups is just an appropriate natural response to the failure of the Akufo-Addo government to rein in its party vigilante groups.
